Spring, oh spring. It's finally here!

Wow, it's supposed to hit the low 70s today! I took Mia out this morning for a walk in her stroller. It's funny how even an 18-month old recognizes the change of seasons. She was so content and happy beging outside with the sun on her face and the breeze blowing (exept when it started blowing a little too much. Then, not so content.). We had a great walk and ended up at Home Depot to buy supplies for the roman shade project I'm doing for Mia's room. Finally, she'll have true black-out shades rather than the (not so) room-darkening ones. I learned last summer, black-out shades are the way to go. And, finally, I took a picture of my shirt. I wore it yesterday with a denim jacket and felt so exited to have something on other than a turtle neck! And, another great part of this shirt is that I made it with things I already had. Simple Sparrow would be proud! Oh, and for those of you interested, the pattern is New Look #6873. I changed it a bit by adding the embroidery and leaving a raw-edged hem with two rows of machine straight stitching and one row of embroidery floss in a running stitch to keep it from fraying too far up.

No end in sight

It's been a rough few days around here. Mia has had a terrible stomach bug since Saturday and spent four hours in the e.r. last night getting re-hydrated. It was our first trip to the hospital as parents and definitely an experience I could have waited longer for. The lights and people and, not to mention, needles were just too much. It was hard on her. Once the i.v. was in, she relaxed and was very interested in showing us her boo boo. She was amazing. The nurse put a sticker on her i.v. taped- hand, which she thought was great. It never ceases to amaze me how strong and adaptive kids can be. She was put through so much last night and still managed to find joy in the moment. God, I love this little girl.

My super girl pre-stomach bug.

I did finish my shirt, but with the events of the week, haven't found the time to take a picture. I'm hoping for tomorrow.

Vintage Patterns

A recent post by SouleMama inpsired me to sew something for myself for the first time in years. I started searching through my old patterns to see if I could use any of them for summer shirts and ran across these vintage patterns from my mother and grandmother. My grandmother used to sew everything herself. My mother didn't have a store-bought item of clothing until she was a teenager in high school. Can you imagine? Amazing. I'd love to sew more for myself and Mia. Running across these again is certainly inspiring.

Here are a few close up. Check out the prices of the patterns!

I did actually start on the summer shirt. It's almost finished. More on that later.
